Can I clean my piercing with Alcohol? This was a question from one of my new customers. After asking the Questions, I was like, “What???”. And I thoroughly replied, “No, you Can’t.” Then I asked myself, is it a question even to ask? I thought much about this matter and decided to share something about cleaning the piercing with Alcohol.

Can I clean my piercing with Alcohol?

No. Alcohol can be a great disinfectant, but it’s not the best for your piercings. It dries out the skin, making it more prone to infection and damage from bacteria that might otherwise stay away from your piercing.

Alcohol also tends to irritate most people who have sensitive skin or allergies. So if you’re allergic or prone to rashes due to dust mites or other allergens, it may be wise not to use Alcohol as part of this process!

And a quick reminder: Hydrogen Peroxide, too, reacts the same way as Alcohol.

How to clean the piercing with or without Alcohol?

First, give your hands a good wash. Since the piercing is an open wound prone to infection, you don’t want to put any bacteria in it. It is crucial to avoid ever using dirty hands to touch your jewelry or piercing.
You can gently clean off any “itchy bumps” accumulated near the piercing site by soaking a cotton ball in warm water. Avoid picking at scabs if you have any. And afterward, discard the cotton ball.
Use your fingertip to generously apply unscented liquid soap to the jewelry and the piercing site. Although rotating your jewelry is unnecessary if you work entirely with this same soap around the piercing and jewelry, ensure you get it everywhere. Rotating the piercing could create bacteria from the jewelry into the pierced area, causing discomfort or even infection. It’s best to thoroughly clean the piercing and jewelry pieces without moving them.
Ensure all soap is gone by giving the jewelry and piercing several rounds of warm water rinsing.
Use a fresh paper towel to dry your piercing before getting rid of it.

Is there any impact on the piercing with Alcohol?

Yes, undoubtedly, drinking Alcohol and rubbing it on piercings can have an impact. They are neither particularly good nor bad for piercing. On the one hand, drinking Alcohol thins the blood, so a few cans might cause your piercing to bleed a little more.

You will bleed a little anyway, but avoid drinking Alcohol before getting pierced if you don’t want to lose any more blood.
However, drinking a few beers after your ears are pierced won’t have any adverse effects.
Also, you should avoid using rubbing Alcohol for the first few weeks after getting a piercing.
Any body part pierced typically needs at least six weeks to heal.
At this point, the sensitive tissues and open wounds around the piercing heal the fastest.
Avoid rubbing Alcohol for at least six weeks because it can harm the delicate tissues near the piercing. Additionally, if you still need to take care of your piercing after 6 to 8 weeks, you can try rubbing Alcohol.
You might experience some torching or tingly feeling if the time is still not suitable to use it. If so, wash your piercing right away with cold water.

Make sure you wash down the entire amount of rubbing alcohol solution. After 6 to 8 weeks, you can resume using rubbing Alcohol if you feel comfortable doing so. Alternatively, wait until your piercing has fully healed and recovered from infection before using alcohol and peroxide solutions.
